Adventist “Responsive Reading” is Catholic in origin

I found a “liturgical” aspect of Adventist services rather amusing – they don’t realise that it’s Catholic. I’ve pointed out quasi-liturgical rituals in Adventist services before, but people have denied them. This “Responsive Reading” seems fairly common, and it’s not just Adventists that use it. In Catholic churches it’s sometimes spoken and sometimes sung.

Adventist version: “Glenridge SDA Church At Worship: Hymn – Responsive Reading – Prayer – 01-29-11” on YouTube

Catholic version: “Adoro te devote”

The next video is from Saint Alban’s Catholic Church in Cardiff. Perhaps one day we’ll hear this in Adventist worship. And then we’ll know they’ve come home to the fullness of the Gospel.
