For some time now, the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate have been in the news. Marc Aupiais over at the South African Catholic News Service asked me to write something about them. In short, there is too much opinion and not enough fact out there – we don’t have all the details, and are unlikely to. I’ve expressed my own opinion in the op-ed on what may have gone wrong, and whether or not the action taken may be justified. Also worth discussing is whether or not this is a bad sign for the use of the Extraordinary Form of the Mass – which I don’t think it is.
