The two videos below show the differences between some<\/em> modern Catholic and Orthodox Masses \/ Divine Liturgies.  Eastern rite Catholics are similar to the Orthodox.  H\/t Fr Z<\/a>.<\/p>\n

I have been fortunate enough to be able to attend mostly decent Ordinary Form Masses in my life.<\/p>\n

I have been fortunate enough to never have had to put up with the extreme nonsense in these videos.  They are, for the most part, the minority.  There are enough around to disappoint.  I’ve seen my share of this stuff; the parish I technically belong to is similar, without the music and dancing – the liturgy is lifeless and seems to be run by the deacon’s wife.  My previous parish had communion as self-service off the altar, and we rarely said the creed, and much was made up as the priest went along.  Before that I had a lovely church with amazing, dignified Masses.  Before that, a hospital chapel for years, simple but devout.  Before that, another lovely church with good Masses (which they still have, and which my parents still attend.)  I’ve had my share of charismatic Masses which I found emotionally disastrous, and they drove me in search of the Eastern Rite and the old Latin Mass.<\/p>\n

I have been fortunate enough to attend a pontifical Divine Liturgy of the Syro-Malankara Orthodox Church.<\/p>\n

I am grateful to be able to attend the Extraordinary Form of the Roman Rite Mass, aka the Tridentine Mass.<\/p>\n
