And the inspired authorities on which these and other doctrines are based, namely the Bible supported by the writings of Ellen White, continue to be the hermeneutical foundation on which we as a church place all matters of faith and conduct. Let no one think that there has been a change of position in regard to this.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/span>&#8211; Jan Paulsen, &#8220;The Theological Landscape: Perspectives on Issues Facing the World Seventh- day Adventist Church&#8221;, Adventist Review, NAD edition (October, 2002), 37.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>It&#8217;s unlikely that he&#8217;ll reform the Adventist denomination regarding their views on Ellen White &#8211; he has not done so thus far.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #333399;\"><em>From its inception, the Seventh-day Adventist church has always maintained that Ellen White was inspired in the same manner and to the same degree as Biblical prophets.\u00a0 Though her writings are not <em>&#8220;<\/em>another Bible&#8221;, the difference is in function and scope, not in authority.\u00a0 Although Ellen White herself considered the Bible to be the test of faith and practice, she believed her messages were from God &#8220;for the comfort of His people and to correct those who err from Bible truth&#8221;.\u00a0 She rejected the <em>&#8220;<\/em>smorgasbord&#8221; approach to her writings, stating <em>&#8220;<\/em>There is no half-way work in the matter.\u00a0 The Testimonies are of the Spirit of God or of the Devil&#8221;.\u00a0 Nor did she make a distinction between the inspired and the less inspired testimonies,\u00a0 the authoritative commentary and the non- authoritative.<br \/>\n<\/em><\/span>&#8211;\u00a0<a title=\"Interpreting Ellen G. White\u2019s Earth History Comments<\/a> (see link for footnoted references)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>:!: :!: :!:\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>Astounding statement from the <a title=\"The Ellen White Estate\" href=\"https:\/\/whiteestate.org\/legacy\/issues-scripsda-html\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Ellen White Estate<\/a>:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>We believe that Ellen White was inspired by the Holy Spirit and that her writings, the product of that inspiration, are applicable and authoritative, especially to Seventh-day Adventists. &#8230; We do not believe that the quality or degree of inspiration in the writings of Ellen White is different from that of Scripture.<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><strong>For a fuller list of statements on Ellen White&#8217;s writings&#8217; status as divinely inspired<\/strong>, see <a title=\"Compare her teachings with the Bible\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nonsda.org\/egw\/bible.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He is looking at liturgy reform, it seems, in his views on church music.\u00a0<span style=\"color: #333399;\"> &#8220;<em>Over the last year and one-half, we&#8217;ve been working on a statement that can be distributed that can reflect both the principles of what should define good music, particularly in worship, and what Ellen White may have to say, and what the Bible says&#8221;<\/em><\/span> &#8211; Paulsen, in a <a title=\"World Church: Paulsen Hears, Answers Youth Questions in Global Telecast\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20051216151751\/http:\/\/news.adventist.org\/data\/2003\/07\/1061584181\/index.html.en\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">discussion about music reform<\/a>.\u00a0 He seems to have been talking <a title=\" A Seventh-day Adventist Philosophy of Music - Guidelines\" href=\"https:\/\/www.adventist.org\/guidelines\/a-seventh-day-adventist-philosophy-of-music\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">about this document<\/a>.\u00a0 Notice that 4 of the 5 footnotes refer to Ellen White&#8217;s writings.\u00a0 Only two verses from Scripture relating to the decisions about music are listed &#8211; other references are incidental.<\/p>\n<p>At least the views expressed do not go to <a title=\" The Christian &amp; Rock Music\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20120207054705\/http:\/\/www.biblicalperspectives.com\/rockbook\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the extreme Bacchiocchi goes to<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, a cover-up involving Paulsen: <a title=\"The Slippery Slimy Cover-Up of Adventist Leaders\" href=\"http:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20050404035616\/http:\/\/truthorfables.com\/NL_Aug_02.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Slippery Slimy Cover-Up of Adventist Leaders<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Paulsen appears to be a conservative, going the way of the traditionalists who hold to Ellen White&#8217;s writings.
