The author gets a lot right and a lot wrong. He has the best description of those who think animals don’t go to heaven. But he makes a common mistake when quoting CS Lewis – “if we need our pets to be completely happy in heaven, God will supply them.” It’s not about our ability to be completely happy in heaven. If we can be completely happy in heaven while some of our loved ones are screaming in hell for all eternity, we certainly won’t need our pets to make us happy. It’s much bigger than that, and I think he missed the point.

Fr Zuhlsdorf has adopted various various COVID-19 conspiracy theories which are expressed in some of his blog posts. Here he says that the “virus, once it escaped the lab, was purposely released” – which is nonsense. There is no scientific evidence for either idea, and plenty against them. And he’s mixed two contradictory conspiracy theories and fused them into one, without realising they contradict each other. The virus could not have escaped and then been released. If it escaped, that escape was when it entered the human population. If it was purposefully released, it did not escape. This sort of contradiction is common amongst those who adopt this sort of nonsense. “Another example of people not knowing what they do not know.”
Now he goes one step further, and is having his exorcisms aimed, by God no less, in Trump’s direction to help protect him from mythical curses. His readers go one step further with their racist comments about the Amharic alphabet, comments which indicate their white Anglo-Saxon origins – West Is Best. They had better be careful – if they aim too many exorcisms in Trump’s direction, he might become a Democrat.
