Ellen White centenary prayers (novena) – Day 4

The Sabbath

Today, leading up to the centenary of Ellen White’s death, we pray for Adventism, which teaches rest on the 7th day, and objects when we celebrate Christ’s resurrection on the 8th day. We pray that they may discover that their rest is in Christ, that we are not bound by days that were signs of the Old Covenant, that they may commemorate the new creation in Christ, instead of the old creation in Adam, and that they may celebrate our exodus from sin and not just Israel’s exodus from Egypt.

I saw that the number [666] of the image beast was made up; and that it was the beast that changed the Sabbath and the image beast followed on after and kept the Pope’s, and not God’s Sabbath. And all we were required to do, was to give up God’s Sabbath and keep the Pope’s and then we should have the mark of the beast and of his image.
– Ellen White, A Word to the Little Flock, p19

The Sabbath will be the great test of loyalty, for it is the point of truth especially controverted. When the final test shall be brought to bear upon men, then the line of distinction will be drawn between those who serve God and those who serve Him not.
– Ellen White, The Great Controversy, p605

The light given me by the Lord at a time when we were expecting just such a crisis as you seem to be approaching was that when the people were moved by a power from beneath to enforce Sunday observance, Seventh-day Adventists were to show their wisdom by refraining from their ordinary work on that day, devoting it to missionary effort. …
At one time those in charge of our school at Avondale inquired of me, saying: ‘What shall we do? The officers of the law have been commissioned to arrest those working on Sunday.’ I replied: ‘It will be very easy to avoid that difficulty. Give Sunday to the Lord as a day for doing missionary work. Take the students out to hold meetings in different places, and to do medical missionary work. They will find the people at home and will have a splendid opportunity to present the truth. This way of spending Sunday is always acceptable to the Lord.’
– Ellen G. White, Testimonies, vol 9, p232, p238

One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. [6] He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks.
– Romans 14:5-6 [KJV]

And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.
– Acts 20:7 [KJV]

Hail Mary, full of grace, mother of Christians,
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners, now, and at the hour of our death.
Amen

Ellen White, mother of Adventism,
pray for those who follow what you taught during your life on earth.
Now that you are in God’s presence, you can see the sad reality
of the errors you brought your children.
Together with us, ask God to send his grace on the Adventist church,
so that it might see the beauty and love and truth
to be found in the original Christian faith,
and return to the faith of the Apostles,
the faith recorded in the Bible.
Amen

Holy Michael the Archangel,
Pray for us.

Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
Pray for us.

Joseph and the Patriarchs,
Pray for us.

Moses and all the Old Testament Saints,
Pray for us.

Saint Peter, Saint Paul, and all the Holy Apostles,
Pray for us.

St Ignatius of Antioch, St Polycarp, St Justin Martyr,
Pray for us.

Souls of all those who served God in the Adventist church,
Pray for us.

Holy Souls in Purgatory,
Pray for us.

Anima Christi

Soul of Christ, make me holy.
Body of Christ, save me.
Blood of Christ, inebriate me.
Water from the side of Christ, wash me.
Passion of Christ, make me strong.
O good Jesus, hear me.
Hide me within Your wounds.
Let me never be separated from You.
Deliver me from the wicked enemy.
Call me at the hour of my death,
And tell me to come to You,
That with Your saints I may praise you
Forever. Amen

Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name;
thy kingdom come;
thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses
as we forgive those who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever.
Amen

Glory be to the Father +, and to the Son +, and to the Holy Spirit +,
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end.
Amen
