She gave birth to the human, Jesus Christ which was God manifest in the flesh.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"> But once again, since God has always existed, he had no mother.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #000080;\">Come on mike, give it up.\u00a0 God became man, fully man, and Mary is his earthly mother.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 60px;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">Earthly yes. She played no role in His divine nature.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"> Mary being his earthly mother does not make her the mother of God.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>The logic is that if she was indeed his mother, and he was indeed God, then she was the mother of God, because the person she was mother to was God.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Earthly mother of God&#8221; is perhaps a more explanatory title.\u00a0\u00a0<a title=\"Theotokos\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Theotokos\" target=\"_blank\">Theotokos<\/a>\u00a0is the\u00a0<a title=\"Mary, the Theotokos\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?page_id=851\">most explanatory &#8211; she who carried God in her womb<\/a>.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">You guys want to blend his humanity with his divine nature for no other reason than to elevate Mary to the status you do.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Actually, the original reason was to reinforce the divine nature of Christ.\u00a0 The idea arose that the person Mary gave birth to was not God, and only later became God.\u00a0 If Mary was the mother of the human person of the Christ &#8211;\u00a0<a title=\"Christotokos\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mother_of_Christ\" target=\"_blank\">Christotokos<\/a>\u00a0&#8211; but the divine person only came later, she could not be\u00a0<a title=\"Theotokos\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Theotokos\" target=\"_blank\">Theotokos<\/a>, but only\u00a0<a title=\"Christotokos\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Mother_of_Christ\" target=\"_blank\">Christotokos<\/a>.\u00a0 Orthodox Christianity reinforced the teaching that there was always only one person &#8211; not a human person that later acquired a God person within him.\u00a0 The title\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Theotokos\" target=\"_blank\">Theotokos<\/a>\u00a0or Mother of God was simply to show that the person Mary was mother to was God, not a non-divine person who later attained \/ acquired Godhood.<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\">For Mary to be &#8220;mother of God&#8221; she would have to be a god herself.<\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In Catholic\/Orthodox theology, it means she was mother to a person, and that person was God when he was in her womb.<\/p>\n<p>Don&#8217;t make the mistake of rejecting a teaching considered to be biblical and shared by virtually all Christians &#8211;
