{"id":1682,"date":"2006-09-16T20:00:39","date_gmt":"2006-09-16T18:00:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?p=1682"},"modified":"2017-10-19T19:35:52","modified_gmt":"2017-10-19T17:35:52","slug":"was-jesus-the-son-of-mary","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?p=1682","title":{"rendered":"Was Jesus the son of Mary?"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fcbkbttn_button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DiscussingAdventismBook\" target=\"_blank\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/wp-content\/plugins\/facebook-button-plugin\/images\/standard-facebook-ico.png\" alt=\"Fb-Button\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"fcbkbttn_like \"><fb:like href=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?p=1682\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\" layout=\"standard\"  width=\"400px\" size=\"small\"><\/fb:like><\/div><div class=\"fb-share-button  \" data-href=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?p=1682\" data-type=\"button_count\" data-size=\"small\"><\/div><\/div><p>These days one comes across a rather strange idea that Jesus was not genetically related to his mother, Mary.\u00a0 Christians believe that he was not genetically related to Joseph, since he was born of a virgin, but he was truly Mary&#8217;s son, and she was truly his mother.<\/p>\n<p>The idea that Mary was merely a surrogate host for an unrelated human is propagated mainly in anti-Catholic circles, such as Adventism, in order to justify their rejection of the concept that Mary is the Mother of God.<\/p>\n<p>Catholics and Orthodox call Mary the Mother of God, or\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Theotokos\" target=\"_blank\">Theotokos<\/a>, because the person she was mother to was indeed God.\u00a0 In no way does it mean that she was the mother of the Godhead, or the originator of his divinity.\u00a0 It simply means that, as her son, in her womb and afterwards, he was fully God, and didn&#8217;t become God at a later stage in his life, as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Nestorianism\" target=\"_blank\">Nestorians<\/a>\u00a0believe.\u00a0 The vast majority of Protestant denominations accept this as truth &#8230; some, however, object to the title &#8220;Mother of God&#8221; &#8211; mainly due to a lack of understanding of what it really means.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve got an\u00a0<a title=\"Mary, the Theotokos\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?page_id=851\">article on my website<\/a>\u00a0explaining that in a bit more detail.<\/p>\n<p>Was Jesus really a descendant of David?\u00a0 Was that meant to be biologically, or merely a legal issue?<\/p>\n<p>If Jesus was the seed of Eve who was to crush Satan&#8217;s head, he had to be biologically descended from her.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #6600cc;\">Rom 1:3 KJV Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><span style=\"color: #6600cc;\">Gal 3:16 KJV Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made.
