{"id":1590,"date":"2006-03-15T15:01:00","date_gmt":"2006-03-15T13:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?p=1590"},"modified":"2020-04-19T08:00:19","modified_gmt":"2020-04-19T06:00:19","slug":"the-original-adventists","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?p=1590","title":{"rendered":"The original Adventists"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"fcbkbttn_buttons_block\" id=\"fcbkbttn_left\"><div class=\"fcbkbttn_button\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/DiscussingAdventismBook\" target=\"_blank\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/wp-content\/plugins\/facebook-button-plugin\/images\/standard-facebook-ico.png\" alt=\"Fb-Button\" \/>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/a>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div><div class=\"fcbkbttn_like \"><fb:like href=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?p=1590\" action=\"like\" colorscheme=\"light\" layout=\"standard\"  width=\"400px\" size=\"small\"><\/fb:like><\/div><div class=\"fb-share-button  \" data-href=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?p=1590\" data-type=\"button_count\" data-size=\"small\"><\/div><\/div><p>Again, in his\u00a0<a title=\"Samuele Bacchiocchi\" href=\"http:\/\/www.biblicalperspectives.com\/endtimeissues\/et_144.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">latest Endtime Issues<\/a>, Samuele Bacchiocchi has made a very insightful statement about the origins of Adventism.\u00a0 He has\u00a0<a title=\"When did Adventism lose the truth?\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?p=1228\">stated this before<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He admits the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>most Adventist pioneers were anti-Trinitarians<\/li>\n<li>they believed Jesus Christ was created by God<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div id=\"attachment_1546\" style=\"width: 191px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1546\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1546\" alt=\"James and Ellen White\" src=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/James-and-Ellen-White-191x300.jpg\" width=\"191\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/James-and-Ellen-White-191x300.jpg 191w, http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/03\/James-and-Ellen-White.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 191px) 100vw, 191px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-1546\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">James and Ellen White<\/p><\/div>\n<p>These are his words [links are added by me]:<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\"><p><span style=\"color: #009900;\"><em>The history of the Adventist church reveals the struggle to gradually overcome doctrinal positions that proved to be unbiblical. For example, initially most of our pioneers were anti-Trinitarians. They did NOT believe that Jesus was co-eternal with the Father. They maintained that Christ was created by God.\u00a0 This is the position of the\u00a0<a title=\"Wikipedia: Jehovah&#039;s Witnesses\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Jehovah&#039;s_Witnesses\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Jehovah Witnesses<\/a>\u00a0and of the\u00a0<a title=\"Wikipedia: Church of God (Seventh-Day)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Church_of_God_(Seventh_Day)\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Church of God Seven Day<\/a>, both of which trace their roots to our Adventist Church. The difference is that our Adventist church eventually abandoned the heretical\u00a0<a title=\"Wikipedia: Arianism\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Arianism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arian view of Christ<\/a>, while these churches remained entrenched in the original teachings of our Adventist church.<\/em><\/span><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>If you&#8217;re looking for a group that is closer to the original Adventist teaching, try the Jehovah&#8217;s Witnesses.<\/p>\n<p>Modern Adventism has corrected itself, and returned to the historical Christian faith taught by the early Christians.\u00a0 Many within Adventism today are objecting to this, and retain some of these anti-Trinitarian teachings &#8230; one of the reasons they cite is that the Adventist church is accepting Catholic doctrines.<\/p>\n<p>Well, at least they admit that it was the Catholic Church that formulated the doctrine of the <a title=\"Catholic Encyclopedia: The Blessed Trinity\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/cathen\/15047a.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Trinity<\/a>.\u00a0 If you read\u00a0<a title=\"The Fathers of the Church\" href=\"https:\/\/www.newadvent.org\/fathers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">the writings of the early Christians<\/a>, you&#8217;ll see that their teachings were Catholic to the core.\u00a0 The early Christians were not some sort of proto-Protestant, and certainly not some early sort of Adventist.<\/p>\n<p>In\u00a0<a title=\"When did Adventism lose the truth?\" href=\"http:\/\/blog.theotokos.co.za\/?p=1228\">a previous post<\/a>, I said the following:<\/p>\n<blockquote dir=\"ltr\"><p><em>&#8230; they did not gradually understand the truth until they had lost most of it first.\u00a0 In a massive sweep, they lost huge chunks of the truth, going their own way, away from the faith revealed and clarified over time by the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 Some went so far as to even deny the Holy Spirit&#8217;s part in the Trinity.\u00a0 Adventism recovered a lot of the truth.\u00a0 But Adventism still has a way to go on its journey from that huge loss.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>We should see their founders&#8217; rejection of the Trinity as a huge step backwards in terms of sound, biblical teaching.\u00a0 We should see their other teachings, including the Sabbath, 1844, the Investigative Judgement, soul sleep, etc., as part of that era of confusion where they lost so much truth.\u00a0 The true remnant would not have lost so much, in order to gain so little.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>This still holds true.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Modern Adventism has corrected itself, and returned to the historical Christian faith taught by the early Christians.
